Memorial Day
On May 7, marking the 97th anniversary of Alexander Spendiaryan’s death, the A. Spendiaryan House-Museum held its traditional commemorative events.
The program began in the park adjacent to the National Academic Theatre of Opera and Ballet, at Spendiaryan’s grave. Representatives from the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sports; the A. Spendiaryan House-Museum; the Opera and Ballet National Academic Theatre named after the composer; the Union of Composers of Armenia; the Komitas State Conservatory of Yerevan; the Armenian Choral Society; and the Arno Babajanyan Musical-Pedagogical College, along with admirers of Spendiaryan’s art, laid flowers and offered incense in tribute to the composer.
The “Melody” String Quartet performed Koryun Ananyan’s “Funeral March in Memory of the Unforgettable Teacher A. Spendiaryan” —a piece presented to the public again after a 97-year hiatus.
The commemorative events continued at the House-Museum, where a scientific presentation was held in the museum’s hall, dedicated to Koryun Ananyan. The speaker, Nina Hakobyan, a researcher at the A. Spendiaryan House-Museum, shared insights into Ananyan’s life and creative journey.
