The presentation of "Alexander Spendiaryan: illustrated book with CD"
The presentation of "Alexander Spendiaryan: illustrated book with CD" realized with the support of UNESCO Participation Programme took place on June 14th, 2022 at the building of "Yerevan, My Love" Foundation. The event was organized by the composer's house-museum, under the patronage of Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sport of the Republic of Armenia.
Let us remind you that the year 2021 marked the 150th birth anniversary of the founder of the Armenian symphonic music, composer, conductor, public figure and pedagogue Alexander Spendiaryan. This anniversary was included in the UNESCO 2020-2021 calendar of celebrities and important events. A. Spendiaryan հouse-museum published "Alexander Spendiaryan" illustrated book with CD in the frame of the series of the anniversary events celebrated under the patronage of UNESCO.
Various projects were realized in Armenia and abroad with the support of RA ESCS Ministry and initiated and coordinated by the composer's house-museum. Among them the project "Alexander Spendiaryan: illustrated book with CD" represented from the Spendiaryan house-museum was approved by the UNESCO receiving support in the frame of Participation Programme.
The illustrated book became the culmination of the Jubilee projects.
Period of preparation lasted for two years, since 2019 to 2021 (head of the project and compiling editor - Marine Otaryan, compilers - Astghik Harutyunyan and Hasmik Hambaryan, chief editor - Hasmik Gulakyan, translator - Gohar Melikyan). 972 materials gathered from 22 museums and archives of Armenia and abroad were included in the book. Many of those materials were published for the first time.
The recording of the CD attached with book was realized by the Armenian State Symphony Orchestra headed by the director Sargis Balbabyan. 10 symphonic and chamber compositions written by Spendiaryan were included in the CD (ASSO, conducted by Vahagn Papyan, Karen Shahgaldyan - violin, Sevak Avanesyan - cello, Armine Grigoryan and Marianna Shirinyan - piano). The idea of recording of those compositions using latest technologies belongs to Spendiaryan house-museum and ASSO for the purpose of making them available for the 21st century music lovers with a new interpretation. The recordings are available with the QR codes placed in the album-book.
The book was published at the "Antares" Publishing House. This unique project is bilingual - in Armenian and English, which gives opportunity to promote the life and creative activity of the great Armenian classical composer in the international sphere as well.
The presentation attendees were government officials, cultural figures and intellectuals.
The deputy minister of ESCS of RA Mr. Ara Kzmalyan made the opening speech of the event. The general secretary of National Commission of Armenia for UNESCO Mrs. Nune Zastukhova welcomed the bilingual project. The peculiarities of the book were represented by the doctor of arts, professor, RA Honored Art Worker Lilit Yernjakyan. The diector of the Spendiaryan house-musuem, RA Honorary Worker of Culture Marine Otaryan thanked all the sponsors and partners of the project and the event.

Spendiaryan's chamber compositions were performed by the Khachturian Trio - Armine Grigoryan (piano), Karen Shahgaldyan (violin) and Artyom Ioanissyan (cello).
In the balcony of the building the guests got acquainted with the "Story of an exhibit" - the model of the residence of Araratian Patriarchal Diocese – brought from the house-museum for one day. This exhibit with audio guide in Armenian, Russian and English tells how the composer was given a working cabinet in this building, where he wrote his first and only composition in Armenia – symphonic suite “Yerevan Etudes”. By the way, the place of the presentation was not chosen by chance. It was not far from the residence of Diocese, where the composer got inspired by the view from the balcony.
