NEW PIANO ARRANGEMENTS OF SPENDIARYAN’S WORKS
The presentation of the trilingual (Armenian, Russian, English) collection “Alexander Spendiaryan Selected Compositions arranged for the piano” took place on December 1.
Alexander Spendiaryan who is especially fameous for his opera “Almast” and symphonic suite “Yerevan Etudes”, and is truly considered the founder of the Armenian symphonic music, had composed many other works worthy of ongoing promotion. The performances of the piano versions of 10 such compositions, “Sweet Rose”, “Eastern Lullaby”, “Oh, do not weep”, “Lullaby” (Crimean Tatar song), “Poor Nightingale” (from Sayat-Nova’s songs), “To the Beloved” (Armenian folksong), Song about a Mouse from “Crimean Sketches”, Dance of Maidens, Dance of Men, and Persian March from the opera “Almast” already will be available.
The collection “Alexander Spendiaryan Selected Compositions arranged for the piano” has been published to present the listed works to the attention of pianists. Arrangements are made by the Honored Artist of Armenia, professor of the Yerevan State Conservatory, pianist Villy Sargsyan, and the special editor of the collection is composer, pianist, musicologist Artur Avanesov.
The collection was published by the “Komitas” Publishing House, at the initiative of the A. Spendiaryan House-museum and with the support of the RA People’s Artist, composer Vladilen Balyan, the RA Honored Art Worker, musicologist Armen Budaghyan, and the Doctor of Philosophy Karen Swassjan (Switzerland).
